Wedding insurers need to know if couples are planning an overseas wedding
19th June 2008
Couples that are planning to get married abroad need to check with their insurer that they are fully covered before setting off.
That is the advice given by wedding website hitched.co.uk, which has warned that if anything were to happen it could costs couples “thousands of pounds”.
Francesca Moore, spokeswoman for the wedding website, said that whilst it is not difficult to get wedding insurance that covers overseas nuptials, it is essential that a couple’s insurer know they will be getting married overseas.
Ms Moore said: “If you do not explain that you are getting married overseas, and then you need to make a claim, the insurance policy might not be valid.”
The wedding website has advised couples to shop around to ensure they are getting the best deal and the “right insurance from the right company”.
According to the website, the average wedding now costs around £17,800 and “lavish and expensive” celebrity unions do, they say, have an influence on couple’s choices.
