Poll shows weddings are credit crunch resistant

While other industries suffer in the credit crunch, the wedding business has weathered the storm well, according to a poll of exhibitors and visitors to the British Bridal Exhibition.
Of those questioned, just over 61 per cent said that they thought the industry has been unaffected by the credit crunch and 31 per cent said that while they felt it had been affected to some extent, people were still spending.
With the amount of money involved in a wedding - You & Your Wedding magazines survey revealed the average cost was £20,273 - couples no doubt consider getting wedding insurance for their big day.
Nina Dicks, from Elizabeth Dickens which specialises in bridal veils, said: "They will spend their money. It may be that they will plan further ahead, but they will do it just the same."
According to the survey the biggest single expense of a wedding is entertaining the guests, with a honeymoon coming in as the second highest cost that couples have to pay up for.
The statistics show that the average cost of a post-wedding holiday is £3,220.
