Credit crunch not stopping weddings

Credit crunch not stopping weddings

14th August 2008

The credit crunch is forcing consumers to tighten their belts but their cost-cutting does not extend to cancelling weddings.

That is according to the Wedding Ideas Magazine who has said that rather than putting off their nuptials, couples are being more frugal with costs and are doing a lot of things themselves.

Even with cut-backs weddings are still expensive occasions and it would seem to make sense for couples to get wedding insurance.

Commenting on ways to cut back on the big day, Rachel Moschke, editor of Wedding Ideas Magazine, said: "There are ways [to save money] like doing things yourself, there's a massive market for DIY invitations and favours at the moment and it also adds a personalisation to the day and makes your day unique."

Other tips include asking a family member to make the wedding cake or arranging to get married in the week, rather than at the weekend which can be expensive.

A survey of 1,500 brides-to-be by You & Your Wedding magazine showed that the average wedding costs £20,273 and the biggest expense is entertaining the guests.
