Couples advised to consider wedding insurance
5th September 2008
Couples getting hitched need to consider purchasing wedding insurance as the day can end up being very expensive.
That is according to the British Insurance Brokers Association (Biba), which has warned couples of the importance of wedding insurance.
Peter Staddon, a spokesperson for the industry body, said that as with any insurance policy it is important to estimate the risk.
He said: "Like all insurance the individuals getting married should sit down and look at the risks they face.
"They should then evaluate that exposure to estimate the cost."
Mr Staddon said that for those who feel it is the best option they should contact a broker who will be able to assist them.
The average cost of a UK wedding is nearly six times the amount of a wedding overseas. According to research, over half of people would consider getting married abroad.
People were also keen to get hitched overseas because they felt doing so could stop family feuds getting out of hand on the big day.
